I have been involved with the Monsignor Schnacky Community Players in Mendon, NY for many years. I designed and (with the help of some selfless volunteers) executed a set design for a three-act melodrama for the 2008, 2009 (this one) and the 2010 seasons.
The 2009 season melodrama, entitled "Trapped in a Villain's Web - or - Weave Me a Loan" was set in the Made in Paris Hat Shop, Brooklyn New York, 1928. I really wanted to capture the feel of French Victorian wallpaper, but wanted to customize the design. I hand-painted one floral motif onto illustration board, photocopied it 34 times, cut each out, and pasted them to the wall! It went very quickly and I was able to customize exactly where the pattern was placed, keeping perfect symmetry. The woodwork around the center window, the background scene of Brooklyn NY in the window, the shelves, the hats sitting on the fake shelves, the "window" in the door, are all hand-painted by myself. The only actual 3-D piece is the mirror next to the door. And the backwards lettering on the window was done with the help of my friend Julie at Words2Paint.com!
