I produced some spot illustrations for an article in Life in the Finger Lakes Magazine about how to prune bushes. The article and the artwork appeared in the Spring 2005 issue.
Sometimes an art director will use illustrations such as these which demonstrate a process, in lieu of photos, simply to make a layout stand apart and be more attractive. Other times illustrations are used when photos are not possible (such as being the wrong season when the issue "goes to press"). The next time you thumb through a magazine, see how many illustrations you can find! They are not just paintings, but can be collages or drawings, also. |
